About Us
Finding Inspiration in Every Turn
2024 UPDATE: We are currently looking for a space to invest in for ourselves. We no longer have our physical building, however we will still host and put on different events for the sisters in the meantime .
The Social Loft was a 2400 sq ft building located in Hamtramck, MI and was founded in 2021 by Three sisters, Aliyah, Laila and Taqwa Mahdi. Our space is the first of its kind in the United States that is owned and operated by African American Muslim women. Our mission is to serve the needs and wants of our community. The Social Loft is a women's space that was created to address the social, spiritual and wellness needs of primarily Muslim women. The space has served as a workspace for many talented women in various professions, allowing them to share their wonderful gifts and talents with others. We currently offer co-working offices for women to rent from us on a daily or monthly basis. We have a only women private gym room for women to come and workout in privacy . Our members has access to our kids play space as well. We currently have a small space to rent for your next intimate gathering , pop-up shop or workshop. Although the majority of the women living in the areas surrounding the Loft are Muslims, the space is a community space and is welcoming to all women.
Our Story
We are three sisters that were born and raised in Detroit Michigan. We spent alot of our childhood and adolescence in the Hamtramck area attending the Muslim school, Al-Ikhlas Training Academy. The school environment left such an impact on us that we often missed the comraderie of our peers in our younger years. Thus, we wanted to create a space similiar to it as adults, which led to the birth of The Social Loft. When we are not working at the Loft, you can find us being active mothers, wives and servants in the community.
